PETIT TRAITÉ DE BRIQUES
Petit Traité de Briques – 2024
Private collection
Artist Vincent Breed imagined a wall installation that celebrates French craftsmanship and the listed façade of this building. His artistic proposal is based on the concept of the brick, the ultimate symbol of construction. The artist collected old bricks, which he then molded in order to reproduce them in glass. Whether made of coal, raw earth, or fired clay, all have contributed to the history of French construction and architecture.
The inverted presentation highlights the material and offers an intimate view of the brick.
The work is a translation of the façade into the interior of the building, thereby expressing the historical legacy intended by Covivio. It sheds light on the bridge between construction and the artist’s studio — where the artwork is conceived, sketched, and built.
Finally, the work is made from glass remnants of the projects the artist develops on a daily basis.
This recycled glass, scattered with bubbles and veils, has been deliberately kept raw by Vincent Breed, echoing the handcrafting of ancestral bricks.
It is thus a continuation of an ecological commitment and production within a virtuous cycle.
Nothing is lost, everything is transformed.
