ANTHEM

Anthem – 2021

“More air surrounds me than I use solely to breathe, and I speak… And I blow into the Trumpet of the rite.”
Pascal Quignard

“Vincent Breed once again summons the body in these pneumatic forms, communities in elevation, spheres and circles, organizers of the outside and the inside, of what contains and what extends, pieces and organs that he breathes into and moves. Here, he offers a curved and shiny skin, absorbing surfaces subtly bringing some protruding shadows, celestial messages or remnants of the illusions of Plato’s cave, or… ellipses in the story he tells. The breath, the minimum between thought and form, is the substance this work questions. He proposes, here, to the body — constantly changing, filling and then expiring — the buoy of a decisive rescue for this inflated form, already, to creation… in the nostrils of Adam.”
